Abubilla (Upupa epops )

La abubilla (Upupa epops) es un ave de plumaje color anaranjado con la cola y las alas blancas y negras. En la cabeza tienen un penacho de plumas como un abanico se suelen mantener cerrado.

Son propias de Europa, Asia y África. Es una especie migratoria. Suelen anidar en el centro de Europa y de Asia. En Madagascar hay una subespecie llamada  Upupa marginata.

Se alimentan introduciendo su largo pico en tierra blanda en busca de larvas o escarabajos.

Instala su nido en el hueco de los árboles, en muros. Incuba la hembra, que permanece en el nido desde el comienzo de la puesta y es alimentada por el macho. Los polluelos pueden permanecen en el nido 28 días y son alimentados con insectos, al principio solo con alimento aportado por el macho y luego por ambos padres
